In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1-5
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14
Jesus our Lord should be the center of attention.
Even though Christmas may have a uncertain biblical date or have been taken over by secularism and commercialism, it is still the time of the year where the Lord Jesus Christ can be openly worshiped and praised in the culture without too much murmuring or hassle from the ungodly.
I am very much against the secularism of Christmas, i.e. Santa Clause. He is a lie and a fraud. Old Saint Nick is a ploy that takes attention away from the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord should be the center of attention. I'm also against the commercialism of Christmas. Gift giving is fine, but many people go into debt trying to out do each other in buying expensive stuff that they can't afford.
Jeremiah 10 is not talking about a Christmas tree.
One of the portions of scripture "Christian Christmas haters" love to use to discredit Christmas is Jeremiah chapter 10. I don't love nor do I hate Christmas trees. I can take them or leave them. However Jeremiah chapter 10 is not referring to a Christmas tree. All anyone has to do is apply what is said about the tree there to a Christmas tree in proper context. Nobody has to be told not to be afraid of a Christmas tree and people don't walk around carrying it wherever they go that it has to be borne.
There may be a few crazy people on the planet who would actually bow down and worship a Christmas tree, but certainly not the average person who puts up a Christmas tree to decorate their house for a few weeks then dumps it in a landfill or wood chipper to be destroyed. But, oh how many of the "Christian Christmas haters" have video games, computers, and big screen t.v. sets that they sit or lay down in front of and adore and worship EVERY SINGLE DAY?! Just who are the idol worshipers now?
Let no man judge you in respect of an holyday.
The bible does not tell Christians to celebrate the Lord's birth each year, nor does it tell us not to. We see from what the apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 2:16 that the saints were being judged by others regarding holydays or holidays. Jesus our Lord is the fulfillment of those types and shadows. Some must have kept holydays and others didn't. The apostle Paul said to let no man judge you regarding them.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: -- Colossians 2:16Also, in Romans 14:5, the apostle Paul addressed the subject of saints who did or did not give respect or higher regard to a certain day or days above other days. The apostle Paul said, "Who are you to judge?" This is something that each person should be fully persuaded of in his own mind as long as you do it or not do it as unto the Lord. If a person wants to honor the Lord by celebrating his birth on December 25th, who are you to judge him?
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. -- Romans 14:5
"Christian Christmas haters" are hypocrites
Many of the people who condemn Christians who celebrate Christmas are hypocrites. They are strongly against the celebration of Christ's birth day, but they love & celebrate their own. They broadcast "Today is my birthday!" to everyone. They tell people to send them birthday presents. They're hypocrites of the biggest kind.
They also celebrate weddings, anniversaries, the birth of their children and grandchildren, and holidays such as Independence Day, etc., but Oh my! They have an issue with a Christian observing the birth of our Saviour on Christmas. Hypocrites! They observe and celebrate their their own birthday and that of their children and others, is not our Lord and Saviour, the creator of all things more worthy of honor?
God the Father celebrated His Son's birth
I heard one good pastor say once that God celebrated Christmas, why shouldn't we? God gave all mankind a gift. He gave mankind the greatest gift of all, the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
God put up lights and signs in the sky, a great star which the wise men followed to the location of the Lord. They gave him gifts. There was celebration. God sent praise by the angels who appeared to the shepherds tending their flocks. The sky was filled with a multitude of the heavenly host praising God after the proclamation of Jesus' birth. So, there's our examples of gift giving, displaying lights and signs, and celebrating by praising and singing.
Jesus Christ IS the reason for the season
Yes, Jesus IS the reason for the season! We should praise God for the Lord's coming as a babe on Christmas. God put on human flesh and became a man to later innocently die on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins.
He came to save us from eternal hell and separation from God the Father. We should worship him on Christmas (and everyday) thanking him every single day for giving us the gift of salvation for which I am most grateful.
